May 2005
We are building the workshop
May 10th, 2005

We are weeks ahead of schedule and the weather is still perfect for working outside. We change our plans and postpone the interior fit-out. We will start work on the area underneath the house instead. Eight pallets of concrete blocks are delivered.

May 10th, 2005

The area under the house needs to be levelled out first. In six of the eight sections between the stumps we will have full standing height.

heavy fog and a distant blue sky somewhere above it.

May 23rd, 2005

we take a break from block work and finish fitting the red window trims.

May 23rd, 2005

the block work is completed. The six sections between the columns in the front of the photo will be enclosed and give us a workshop area of 63 m2. The last two sections will be a weatherproofed dog kennel for the wet winter days.

May 31st, 2005

we install the woodstove. The Kemlan stove burns very clean with low emissions. On the right the chimney smokes after we have added new logs to the fire. After a few minutes  the logs are well alight and smoke is no longer visible. We have bought the first firewood. We have two acres of forest on our property with lots of fallen trees. In the future we will cut our own firewood.

June 2nd, 2005

the concrete pump truck, the concreter and two concrete trucks arrive at seven o'clock in the morning and it is still pitch black dark. At nine o'clock ten cubic metres of concrete have been poured!
