The Problem
The environmental problems of our modern world couldn't be overlooked any longer some thirty years ago:

  • pollution of soil, water and air

  • loss of plant and animal species

  • rapid consumption of non-renewable resources

The Challenge
How would it be possible to continue our existence on this planet without destroying it at the same time?
Permaculture
Bill Mollison's and David Holmgren's answer was 'Permaculture', a system they developed in Australia in the 70's. This means permanent culture, permanence of our existence on Earth through a different culture, through permanent agriculture which does put just as much back into the soil as is taken.
not just a pond, but a small world in itself
Permaculture
  • creates human settlements  which are sustainable

  • combines traditional knowledge and modern science

  • works with nature, not against it. Natural systems are the models used.

  • encourages people to think critically about the problems we face today. It encourages us to become a conscious part of the solutions.

The three ethics:

  • Care of the Earth

  • Care of People

  • Give away surplus

an edible jungle:
bananas, sweet potatoes, mangoes, lemongrass, water cress
